Danish FM after meeting with Rubio: Trump's Greenland ambitions are unacceptable

Denmark considers US President Donald Trump's plans to annex Greenland unacceptable. They undermine Danish sovereignty, said Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen after meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Reuters reports.
Rasmussen noted that Greenland was not on the meeting’s agenda with Rubio. However, he took the opportunity to express Denmark’s position on the matter.
He stated that the repeated remarks by the US President about seeking control over Greenland are unacceptable. This calls into question the sovereignty of Greenland as part of the kingdom, Rasmussen added.
At the same time, as the Minister added, the US Secretary of State assured that Washington respects Greenland's right to self-determination.
On its part, the US State Department, following the meeting between Rubio and Rasmussen, stated that the Secretary of State reaffirmed the "strong relationship" between the US and Denmark.
Trump's statements
US President Donald Trump has frequently spoken about plans to annex Greenland to the United States.
The American leader also suggested that he might use force to ensure that Greenland becomes part of the US.
