For a person, hair is not only an element of beauty but also an important indicator of health. If it begins to fall out actively or its quality changes, it can be a signal of negative processes in the body, said Ukrainian trichologist Oksana Varlamova.

When you should see a trichologist

According to the expert, many people believe that hair loss is only a cosmetic problem, but this is not the case.

"Hair loss or thinning, changes in its quality are the first alarming signs. If you see that your hair is falling out more than usual, if you have discomfort or pain on your scalp, you must see a trichologist," the specialist said.

Timely treatment makes it possible to help the patient quickly. But delaying it can lead to more serious problems.

How much hair loss per day is normal

In medical literature, the norm is considered to be the loss of 50 to 150 hairs per day. However, this number is individual.

"There are naturally thick-haired people, and there are fine-haired and thin-haired people. If I lose 150 hairs, I'll be bald in two months. But for a person with thick hair, the average norm is 40-50 hairs," Varlamova explained.

She added that even the same amount of hair can look different depending on its length.

"A guy can lose 50 hairs, and we won't notice it. But if a girl with long hair loses just 10, it will already look like a big clump," the expert noted.

When you should be worried

According to Varlamova, the alarming signal is not so much the number of hairs, but the trend.

"You should worry if you see that your hair is falling out more than usual, it's progressing, and at the same time you feel unwell," the trichologist said.

In such cases, doctors always begin with diagnostics.

"When a patient comes in, the first thing we do is run tests. We look at what has happened in the body. And by correcting that, we regrow the hair," the expert summarized.
