Dagestan reports drone attack on Kaspiysk, Makhachkala airport temporarily closed
Dagestan reports a drone attack on the city of Kaspiysk, according to the head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov. The airport in Makhachkala was closed over an air threat.
The Russian official said that the drone “unsuccessfully attempted to attack” facilities in Kaspiysk. There is no information on damage or casualties.
Russian media wrote that the Makhachkala airport temporarily stopped working. The Carpet plan was announced there. It is implemented if there is a threat of aircraft being hit or if a crossing of the Russian border is detected.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, reminded that the distance from Ukraine to the Caspian Sea is more than 1,000 kilometers.
He adds that the port in Kaspiysk serves as an important base for the Russian Caspian Flotilla and various military units of the Russian army. The port is located along routes used by Iran to supply weapons to Russia.

The first strike on the Caspian Sea
On November 6, Ukrainian drones attacked a Russian flotilla in the Caspian Sea for the first time. It was firing on the territory of Ukraine, and the 177th Marine Regiment was involved in hostilities in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
According to RBC-Ukraine's sources, the Tatarstan and Dagestan missile ships, as well as small missile ships of the 21631 project, could have been damaged.
Russia often fires missiles at Ukraine from the Caspian Sea.
