Czech officials emphasize Ukraine should get same protection as Israel during Iranian attacks
The situation in Ukraine requires a coordinated international response, similar to the one Israel experienced in response to Iranian drone and missile attacks, according to Euractiv.
Some Czech politicians believe that Ukraine, which has faced similar attacks from Russia, should receive the same protection.
"The Ayatollah’s overnight attack on Israel was successfully repelled thanks to a swift international response and a willingness to defend airspace. It is a pity that we do not defend the airspace over Ukraine with the same vigour," says Czech Minister of European Affairs Martin Dvorak.
Other politicians also echoed these sentiments.
"Ukraine deserves the same forceful defense that Israel rightly received from its allies last night," says Danuše Nerudová, a leading STAN candidate in the European elections.
Czech MEP Marketa Gregorová joined the call to strengthen the defense of Ukraine.
"I totally condemn Iran’s attack on Israel. In light of Scholz’s promise yesterday to supply Ukraine with more Patriots, I believe that the West will finally help build air defenses that also protect Ukrainian civilians," she says.
Iran's attack on Israel
On the night of April 14, Iran massively attacked Israel, using hundreds of attack drones and missiles. After the attack, the IDF said that almost all of the air targets were shot down and that the damage from the attack was minor.
The attack was a response to Israel's strike on the Iranian embassy in Syria, which killed several generals.
