Czech intel unmasks Russia's internal sabotage strategy

Czech intelligence has called 2024 one of the most dangerous years for the country's security over Russia's cyberattacks, disinformation, espionage, and sabotage attempts, reports The Guardian, citing Czech intelligence chief Michal Koudelka.
In a new report, the Czech intelligence service said that Russia is trying to restore an extensive spy network, hiding behind diplomats in its embassy in Prague.
The document says that the enemy services used not only their own agents but also recruited people without direct ties to Russia. For example, a Belarusian asylum seeker was paid in cryptocurrency for publishing pro-Russian propaganda.
The Russians paid particular attention to recruiting economically vulnerable people from outside the EU, using online ads, particularly on Telegram. In many cases, the recruits did not even know that they were fulfilling the Kremlin's tasks.
“Such people were usually tasked with a wide range of activities, including transporting people or packages, photographing and filming sensitive objects … to arson attacks,” the report says.
An example is the arson attack on a bus depot in Prague, which, according to investigators, was organized by a Colombian citizen and ordered via the Internet.
The report also mentions the hostile activity of China, which is trying to put pressure on the Czech cooperation with Taiwan and to level the mention of human rights violations.
Michal Koudelka said earlier that his country remains one of the targets of Russia's hybrid war. According to him, Moscow uses classic espionage, cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, and subversion.
Intelligence agencies across Europe are already preparing for new challenges after the war in Ukraine ends, including a possible influx of Ukrainian veterans and the risk of weapons falling into the hands of criminals.
Czech intelligence has also warned that Russia, China, and Iran pose a threat to European security. Intelligence officials believe that the world is teetering on the brink of global conflict.
