A court in South Korea has issued a warrant for the official arrest of President Yoon Suk Yeol. He was previously impeached after a failed attempt to impose martial law, Yonhap reports.

The Seoul Western District Court issued the warrant on charges that Yoon led the uprising and abused his power when he declared martial law on December 3.

Once the warrant is issued, investigators can hold Yoon in custody for up to 20 days, including the days he has already spent in a detention center after being arrested at his Seoul residence on Wednesday.

The High-Level Corruption Investigation Department plans to transfer Yun's custody to the prosecutor's office in 10 days.

The prosecutor's office is expected to conduct further investigation and charge him within 20 days.

The case of mutiny against the President of South Korea

On December 3, the President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, declared martial law in the country. The reason was the desire to restrict the activities of the opposition and introduce censorship in the media.

However, the government and parliament ordered the head of state to cancel the special regime. Yoon apologized for making this decision. In total, martial law lasted about 6 hours.

On December 14, the Parliament of the Republic of Korea impeached President Yoon and removed him from office.

On Wednesday, January 15, law enforcement officers made a second attempt to enter the president's mansion and arrested him.

Yoon was interrogated and placed in the Seoul Detention Center.
