Cosmetologist revealed truth about skin detox: Marketing or reality
The topic of skin detox is becoming quite popular online, promising to remove toxins, cleanse, and improve skin condition. A cosmetologist has shared insights on whether this is truly achievable.
What is detoxification
According to cosmetologist Daria Tishchenko, detoxification specifically refers to the removal of toxins from the body. However, not everyone knows that the skin does not perform this function.
In the human body, this role is carried out by the liver and kidneys. Therefore, skin detox is more of a marketing gimmick than a reality.
However, it is possible to help your skin look fresh and radiant. The expert listed products and procedures that truly improve skin condition:
- gentle acid peels - remove dead skin cells and smooth the skin;
- vitamin C serums - brighten the skin, even out tone, and add radiance;
- moisturizing creams and masks - hydrate the skin and make it more elastic;
- hydraFacial - combines cleansing, exfoliation, and intense hydration in one procedure;
- biorevitalization - injections of hyaluronic acid-based products that hydrate the skin from within and smooth fine lines.
How to cleanse facial skin
Dr. Jerome Garden, a medical doctor, recommends wetting your face with warm - not hot - water and applying a cleanser using circular motions with your fingertips. Be sure to wash the T-zone and U-zone (around the jawline), as these areas are often neglected.
Once you create a good lather, rinse thoroughly and gently pat your face dry with a soft, clean towel.
Extreme temperatures, such as hot showers, can cause blood vessels to expand and damage delicate tissue.
Additionally, hot water naturally strips the skin of its essential lipid barrier, which helps maintain skin integrity. This leads to quicker skin dehydration, itching, and flaking over time.
This is especially important for those with dry or sensitive skin, as it is more prone to damage.
