Cosmetologist explains how to sleep to avoid wrinkles on face
Right after waking up, you might notice sleep wrinkles on your face. Specifically, the side you slept on will likely show more creases and lines. However, certain tips can help you avoid this and prevent damage to your skin.
How they occur
Sleep wrinkles on the face, neck, and décolletage occur when sleeping on the side or stomach.
An expert has outlined rules to reduce these wrinkles and achieve a fresh look in the morning:
- avoid sleeping on your stomach or sides. Make it a rule to sleep exclusively on your back;
- choose an orthopedic pillow designed for cosmetic benefits during night sleep. These pillows feature special contours that prevent skin folds and wrinkles from forming when sleeping on the side, with a recessed area for the head in the center of the pillow to encourage back sleeping;
- opt for pillowcases made from breathable fabrics such as Tencel, silk, or cotton that are thin to prevent deep creases from forming on the skin during 8 hours of sleep;
- replace a worn-out mattress with an ideal one designed with consideration for human body anatomy.
"Create the most comfortable sleeping conditions to stay youthful," noted the cosmetologist.
Additionally, with age, skin elasticity and resilience decrease, facilitating wrinkle formation. Other factors such as sun exposure, smoking, and dehydration contribute to wrinkle formation.
Correct sleeping position
Sleeping on your back is the best position for maintaining youthful skin. It not only prevents the formation of wrinkles by avoiding friction that causes creases but also prevents the skin from experiencing pressure as the face folds into the pillow.
You can place an additional pillow under your head to prevent fluid accumulation during sleep, which helps reduce morning puffiness.
However, few people find it easy to fall asleep in this position. Some are disturbed by a pillow that is too high, while others find their mattress uncomfortable. Therefore, the first step is to ensure that you are comfortable.
Night creams are typically very rich and ultra-moisturizing, and they are excellent for restoring the skin after exposure to external irritants. Choose those that contain hyaluronic acid for the best results.
