Congo disaster: 200 people on boat as dozens of bodies recovered

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, a passenger vessel capsized on Lake Mai-Ndombe, killing at least 19 people, states Mai-Ndombe provincial governor Nkoso Kevani Lebon.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening. The vessel was traveling from the village of Kiri to the country’s capital, Kinshasa. According to the governor, the accident was caused by strong winds.
“Yesterday we recovered nine bodies, and today ten more were pulled from the water, bringing the total to 19 dead and 82 survivors,” Lebon stated.
There is currently no information on the number of people missing.
According to another local official, there were at least 200 passengers on board. The search and rescue operation continues.
As reported earlier, a ferry capsized and sank off the northern coast of Mozambique. According to local authorities, at least 91 people were killed in the disaster.
We also wrote that the bodies of people who died in a shipwreck were found on a beach in southern Italy. The boat, which is believed to have been carrying refugees from Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, crashed into rocks off the coast of Calabria in southern Italy.
