Coach shares tips for healthy cooking while losing weight
During weight loss, people try to choose healthy cooking methods. Many are unsure whether frying in a pan or baking in the oven is healthier.
Ukrainian coach Yurii Popko explained that baking food does not change its calorie content. However, if you fry food in oil or fat, the calorie content will increase accordingly.
It's important to know that fat is the most calorie-dense nutrient. Therefore, when frying meat or fish, they will absorb this fat.
Additionally, if you choose the wrong oil for frying, such as unrefined oil or oil with a low smoke point, it may burn during heating and produce carcinogens.
In addition to being more caloric than the original product, it will also be harmful to health.
Which oils are best for frying
Frying occurs at higher temperatures (200°C+) with a shorter cooking time. The fat heats up at high temperatures, which can lead to the formation of harmful byproducts.
It's important to choose oils with high smoke points (refined olive oil, avocado oil, ghee).
Refined avocado oil contains monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, as well as oleic acid (omega-9 fatty acid) and vitamin E, making it one of the healthiest options for the heart.
Ghee is a type of clarified butter widely used for cooking. Unlike regular butter, which is unsuitable for frying and burns at 150˚C, ghee can be heated to high temperatures - 200-250˚C. In other words, it’s safe for frying.
Food cooked in ghee acquires a pleasant caramel flavor and an amber color, and the oil contains a high amount of vitamins A and E.
It’s important to know that for everyday frying, you don’t need expensive cold-pressed olive oil - it’s better suited for salads. Refined olive oil can be used for regular cooking.
