China slams Trump's tariff threats to Russia's trade partners

China opposes the "illegal unilateral sanctions" threatened by the United States, which President Donald Trump said he would impose if Russia does not agree to peace in Ukraine. This was stated by an unnamed representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as quoted by the Telegraph.
"There are no winners in a trade war, and coercion and pressure will not solve problems," the Chinese Foreign Ministry representative stated.
Yesterday, July 14, the US president announced that Washington is prepared to impose 100% secondary tariffs on countries that maintain trade with Russia if a peace deal on the war in Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.
US efforts to end the war in Ukraine
Recently, the United States has stepped up its diplomatic efforts to end the full-scale war in Ukraine. American officials have repeatedly held separate meetings with both the Ukrainian and Russian sides. At one stage, Washington proposed a complete ceasefire — Kyiv supported the initiative, while Moscow put forward its own conditions. Despite this, Russia and Ukraine returned to direct negotiations and have already held several rounds.
At the same time, Trump’s rhetoric on the conflict has shifted noticeably since his re-election. Just yesterday, the president expressed disappointment with Putin’s actions, threatened new sanctions, and announced the delivery of additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on Brazil, China, and India to phone Putin and urge him to agree to a truce if they wish to avoid sanctions.
