US President Donald Trump announced a significant reduction in Russian oil purchases by China, while India is halting them entirely, according to the White House broadcast.
During a press interaction, journalists asked President Donald Trump whether he planned to discuss the issue of Russian oil purchases with Chinese President Xi Jinping, specifically, whether he was concerned about China buying oil from Russia.
In response, Trump said:
"I may discuss it. But you know, China, I don’t know if you saw today, is cutting back very substantially on purchases of Russian oil, and India is cutting back completely. And we’ve already imposed sanctions."
Sanctions on Russia
On the night of October 23, the United States Department of the Treasury announced sanctions against Russia’s largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, as well as 36 of their subsidiaries. The Treasury urged Moscow to agree immediately to a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Also, according to Reuters, the US has prepared a new list of sanctions in case Russia prolongs the war in Ukraine, though Washington is first waiting for action from Europe.
