ChatGPT could soon become unrecognizable. OpenAI is increasingly focusing on AI agents that will not only respond to users but also act on their behalf, according to the Financial Times.
According to sources, the first changes could begin rolling out in the coming weeks. They will affect both the web version of the service and mobile applications.
The company is increasingly convinced that the future of artificial intelligence lies in agents capable of independently performing a wide range of tasks. This includes booking trips, scheduling meetings, organizing calendars, searching for information, and handling other everyday processes.
As a result, ChatGPT is gradually expected to evolve into a kind of "superapp" that combines multiple AI tools within a single service.
One of the key directions will be the development of the Codex platform, which allows users to create software and write code based on text instructions.
To support this shift, OpenAI is also redesigning the ChatGPT interface. Users will be more actively offered coding tools, image generation features, and third-party services, including Canva and Booking.com.
In the long term, the company plans to make interaction with the service even simpler. OpenAI expects AI models to understand user intent on their own and suggest the necessary tools without additional prompts.
Thibault Sottiaux, who leads all major OpenAI products and platforms, said the company's ultimate goal is to create a personal AI assistant that supports users in both work and everyday life.
"We're building towards is where you have your own personal agent that is capable of helping you ... across everything in your life, be it personally or at work," he said. "You can connect through it on your mobile, desktop or web. When you're in the car, you can talk to it."
At the same time, the changes also have a business objective. OpenAI aims to increase the number of paid users and enterprise clients, which already account for a significant share of the company’s revenue.
OpenAI believes that as artificial intelligence evolves, the line between chatbots, search engines, coding tools, and other digital products will gradually disappear, and users will interact with a single universal assistant.
"When we have (artificial general intelligence), I don’t think there will be a large number of distinct brands," said Alex Embiricos, head of OpenAI's enterprise products. "Probably there will be a single entity that I can talk to that can do whatever I need."
As a reminder, OpenAI recently introduced new personal finance features.
These allow users to connect bank accounts to ChatGPT to analyze spending, savings, and financial habits, although the feature is currently in beta testing for select users in the United States.
