Charlie Kirk's suspected killer admits crime to family member

In Utah, a man was arrested on suspicion of murdering conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He faces the death penalty or life imprisonment, according to The Washington Post.
The suspect in the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk was arrested without the possibility of bail. The arrest occurred two days after the 31-year-old Trump supporter was shot on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, located about 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.
According to authorities, 22-year-old Utah resident Tyler James Robinson confessed to the crime to a family member. The confession became known after the relative informed a family acquaintance, who then reported it to law enforcement. Utah Governor Spencer Cox clarified that the suspect turned himself in, which was also confirmed by Sergeant Lucas Alfred of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Robinson was a third-year student in the electrician training program at Dixie Technical College in St. George. He has been charged with three counts: murder with aggravating circumstances, obstruction of justice, and unlawful handling of a firearm. If found guilty of the first count, the court may impose the death penalty or life imprisonment.
Authorities seized a hunting rifle with a scope from the suspect. At the crime scene, fired and unfired cartridges were found with inscriptions such as notices, bulges, "hey fascist!” and “bella ciao.” One of the shell casings contained homophobic messages.
Governor Cox stated that Kirk’s murder could become a turning point for society, comparing the current political climate in the US to the tense events of the 1960s. He said, “This is our moment. Do we escalate or do we find an off-ramp?” The politician emphasized the importance of maintaining a culture of civil discourse even amid political polarization.
On Wednesday, September 10, well-known right-wing activist Charlie Kirk was shot during a discussion at Utah Valley University. He sustained a gunshot wound and died at the scene. The location and circumstances of the incident are being investigated by local law enforcement.
It should be noted that the US media are reporting new details in the case of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death. According to investigators, the 22-year-old Utah resident may be involved in the murder.
