Captured North Korean soldiers will be useful for Ukraine - Intelligence
The capture of North Korean soldiers is useful for Ukraine. Currently, specialists who know the peculiarities of North Korea are working with the prisoners, says Yevhen Yerin, a representative of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.
“I can say that this is the right and necessary incident for Ukraine and for our position, which we will use to our advantage. This is interesting and necessary information that we can get from them. Plus, the very fact of confirmation of participation from the direct participants from the territory of North Korea is also a very necessary fact for us,” Yerin said.
He said that Ukraine was preparing to work with the North Korean military. Therefore, specialists who know the peculiarities of North Korea are currently working with the prisoners.
“Believe me: we have been preparing. And not only we, but all the relevant services involved in this process have been preparing for such events. And, accordingly, we are ready within the limits set by the legislation of Ukraine,” the DIU representative said.
According to him, the intelligence service is currently studying whether the DPRK will continue to supply its soldiers to Russia to take part in hostilities. Also, there is no information that North Korean soldiers are being used by Russia on the territory of Ukraine.
Yerin said that the very fact of the presence of North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region, although not critical, is not decisive and does not affect the course of the war. Their main task is usually to participate in assault operations or other operations.
“They are usually used as part of marines and airborne troops of the Russian Armed Forces. They are primarily used as cannon fodder. However, various specialists among them deal with various issues, but in general, they are, relatively speaking, infantry,” he said.
North Korean soldiers in Ukrainian captivity
Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had captured 2 North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region. They were injured but survived. They were then brought to Kyiv and talked to the Security Service of Ukraine.
South Korean intelligence also confirmed that the Ukrainian military had captured 2 North Korean soldiers. They quoted one of them as saying that there were significant losses among North Korean soldiers in Russia.
Zelenskyy also offered Kim Jong-un to take the captured North Korean soldiers, but he proposed a condition.
