Bundestag believes Scholz will agree to transfer of Taurus to Ukraine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will eventually agree to supply Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles, according to the leader of the CDU/CSU parliamentary faction in Germany, Thorsten Frei.
"I, of course, can fully imagine it (that Scholz will transfer missiles to Ukraine - ed.). Because it seems indisputable to me that Taurus is a cruise missile that best meets the needs of Ukraine," he said.
He added that Ukraine's goal is to strike at Russian supply lines and thereby "provide some relief regarding Russian attacks in Ukraine."
"This is all the more necessary as Ukrainians have to make do with a few dozen munitions that are available to the Russians. So I can fully imagine that the Federal Chancellor will also come to the point of doing this eventually," said Frei.
Taurus for Ukraine
Ukraine asked Germany for long-range Taurus missiles last year, capable of destroying targets at a distance of 500 kilometers.
However, Berlin is hesitant to transfer them. Chancellor Olaf Scholz himself is against it, as such deliveries supposedly require the presence of German soldiers on the ground.
Scholz also said that in the event of supplying Taurus missiles to the Ukrainian Defense Forces, they could hit a target in Moscow if used incorrectly.
Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated that the supply of Taurus missiles will affect Ukraine's ability to defend itself.
