Bulgaria says Ukrainian drone may have entered country due to electronic warfare

The drone believed to be a Ukrainian Maya decoy drone may have ended up in Bulgaria under the influence of electronic warfare systems. The incident is a side effect of Russia's war against Ukraine, Bulgarian Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov told BGNES.
Eftimov said there were no indications that the incident was the result of deliberate actions against Bulgaria.
According to him, the aircraft, currently believed to be a Ukrainian Maya decoy drone, may have been diverted from its course by electronic warfare systems.
The chief of defense noted that such drones can carry up to 5 kg of explosives.
The admiral also said he had been at the site of the explosion and that it caused no damage.
"The question was whether it was a Shahed or not - it turned out that it wasn't. This incident is a consequence of the fighting taking place near our borders. We are adapting, adjusting and developing the necessary capabilities," Eftimov added.
Drone explodes in Bulgaria
As a reminder, on the morning of August 8, an unidentified drone entered Bulgarian airspace after flying in from Romania. Shortly after crossing the border, it exploded near an international gas pipeline.
Bulgaria's Defense Ministry said that the drone could have been the Ukrainian Maya decoy. Ukraine's Foreign Ministry stressed that nothing had been deliberately directed toward Bulgaria.
