Breast cancer can be detected at early stage: Doctors' advice
Breast cancer ranks first among all female oncological diseases. Doctors have reported that every 7-8 women have issues with their mammary glands, according to the Instagram page of the medical community Zdorovishi razom.
How to detect cancer in time
The main reason for the high mortality rate from breast cancer is late diagnosis of the disease. It is important to remember that breast cancer at an early stage can be stopped.
As statistics show, it is curable in 95% of women at stage 1, 80% at stage 2, and 50% with stage 3 of the disease.
Self-diagnosis can help to "catch" breast cancer at an early stage. Regularly examine your mammary glands.
This applies to men as well. According to statistics, in 2019 in Ukraine, among the registered 14,855 cases of breast cancer, 135 were men.
What should alert you
- The appearance of a "lump" or thickening in the breasts.
- Changes in the size, shape, and appearance of the breast.
- Retraction, redness, or appearance of any changes on the skin of the breast.
- Changes in the shape and appearance of the nipple or the skin around the nipple (areola).
- Discharge from the nipple (pus-like, bloody, unpleasant odor).
- Enlargement or tenderness of the supraclavicular lymph nodes.
Doctors noted that if you have noticed any of these symptoms, it is necessary to urgently consult a specialist.
Preventive check-ups
To prevent breast cancer, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle (quit smoking, alcohol consumption, engage in regular physical activity, and maintain a normal body weight).
It is also important to undergo timely medical examinations:
- Gynecologist, who also assesses and examines the breasts, as well as breast ultrasound - annually.
- Mammologist - no less than once every 1-2 years.
- Women over 50 years old - annual mammographic screenings.
