RBC-Ukraine explains what to expect from magnetic storms between June 26 and June 30 and how to protect your body from cosmic influences.
Magnetic storm forecast
According to satellite systems and international heliogeophysical centers, Earth will experience a wave of weak to moderate geomagnetic activity at the end of June. The Sun will send several bursts of solar wind, but no prolonged major storm is expected.
The space weather forecast for these days is as follows:
June 26 and 27: These will be the most unsettled days of the period. Geomagnetic activity is expected to reach Kp 3.7, which is considered a moderate geomagnetic disturbance (yellow alert level). The strongest fluctuations are expected in the morning and late evening.
June 28: The magnetosphere will gradually begin to calm down. Activity will decline to Kp 3, which is considered the upper limit of normal.
June 29 and 30: The month will end under completely calm conditions. The Sun will be relatively quiet, and the K-index will not exceed Kp 2, indicating an entirely stable geomagnetic field.
Who is at risk and how the body reacts
A Kp index of 3.7 is not considered critical, so most healthy people are unlikely to notice these cosmic fluctuations. However, weather-sensitive individuals, older adults, pregnant women, and people with chronic cardiovascular conditions may experience some discomfort.
The most common symptoms during these days include:
- mild but persistent headaches or migraines
- sudden weakness, drowsiness, or, conversely, insomnia at night
- fluctuations in blood pressure and a rapid heartbeat
- apathy, irritability, and difficulty concentrating
How to protect yourself: simple safety tips
To prevent geomagnetic disturbances from ruining the end of your workweek and weekend, doctors recommend making small adjustments to your daily routine. The rules are simple, but they can be effective.
- Reduce your intake of strong coffee, energy drinks, and alcohol — replace them with water or herbal tea instead.
- Avoid overloading your stomach with fatty and spicy foods.
- Maintain a healthy sleep schedule and aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night.
- Add light walks in the fresh air to your daily routine, while avoiding direct exposure to intense sunlight.
