Boost your liver health with these beneficial foods
It is important to consciously approach your daily diet to ensure that the body and all internal organs function properly. To keep the liver, which suffers the most from unbalanced and poor nutrition, healthy, it is essential to include beneficial foods in your diet, according to the Ukrainian nutritionist Anastasia Holoborodko.
Cruciferous vegetables
This category includes cabbages (from kohlrabi to white and red, sauerkraut without sugar), cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, arugula, daikon, and radish.
These foods contain sulfur and sulforaphane, which are necessary for detox phases, removal of pathological metabolites, and reduction of chronic inflammation.
Phospholipids
Lecithin is necessary for the restoration of liver cells damaged by obesity, infections, poor diet, and alcohol. These are only animal sources - liquid egg yolk, offal, bone-in meat, seafood.
Beets
This vegetable contains betaine, which cleans blood vessels, helps restore liver cells, and aids in protein absorption.
You can eat baked beets, raw beets, or occasionally beet juice with grapefruit and celery after meals.
Sour-tasting foods
These include lemons, limes, and apple cider vinegar. They should especially be added to meals containing protein.
Bitter herbs and spices
Ginger, arugula, cilantro, turmeric, cumin, fennel, mint, horseradish, radish, green onions, parsley, and dill - these are all bitter-tasting herbs and spices.
Garlic
Garlic is considered a natural antibiotic and regulator of sugar load. It contains the antioxidant glutathione.
Regular consumption of garlic can help improve liver health in people with liver diseases and even reduce the risk of developing liver cancer.
Glutathione
Glutathione is an important antioxidant produced in most cells of the body. It consists of three amino acids: glutamine, cysteine, and glycine.
The liver can produce it on its own, but supplementing it always helps with "waste removal from the body." It is worth eating avocado, asparagus, potatoes, and cruciferous vegetables.
Olive oil
The nutritionist noted that cold-pressed olive oil is of the highest quality. It stimulates liver detoxification.
Turmeric
Compounds in turmeric, led by curcumin, reduce liver inflammation, improve its function, and prevent further damage.
Curcumin enhances liver function by increasing the production of detoxifying enzymes, maintaining blood flow cleanliness, and improving nutrient metabolism.
Fermented vegetables
These include organic acids, autoferments, and probiotics. This category includes fermented vegetables, kombucha, and unsweetened plant-based yogurts.
