Ukraine has retrieved the bodies of 909 of its defenders who were killed on the front line. They fought in eight sectors of the front, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Among the fallen are defenders who gave their lives in the hottest sectors of the front: Kurakhove, Pokrovsk, Bakhmut, Vuhledar, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kharkiv, as well as bodies that were in morgues on the territory of Russia.

As the headquarters said, the return of the Heroes was made possible thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons, the State Emergency Service, and other structures of the security and defense sector.

Exchange of bodies between Ukraine and Russia

Ukraine regularly carries out exchanges of the bodies of fallen soldiers with Russia. The Russians systematically delay this process, including concerning the fallen.

The last time Ukraine returned the bodies of 909 fallen defenders was in mid-April.

Also, on March 28, Ukraine retrieved the bodies of 909 fallen servicemen as part of repatriation efforts.

As of early March, over the previous four months, the Russian side had handed over twice as many bodies of Ukrainian defenders as during the entire period of the full-scale war before that.
