In the Odesa region, the Black Sea has independently restored water exchange with the preserved water bodies that were isolated from it for several months, according to Ivan Rusiev, a collaborator of the national natural park Tuzly Lagoons and a Ph.D. in biological sciences.

According to him, nature continues its unique life. Recently, natural water exchange between the reserved lagoons and the Black Sea has been restored.

Importantly, the lack of water exchange had a very negative impact on the ecological system, particularly on fish reproduction.

"A miracle happened - the Black Sea has fundamentally solved the problem of restoring water exchange... After several powerful cyclones on the sandy shoal, a sea breakthrough finally occurred. It happened a week ago, and the sea rushed its waters tumultuously to the Tuzly Lagoons," the statement said.

The current capacity of the breakthrough averages 50 cubic meters per second, although it increases during strong east and southeast winds.

The scientist noted that the Tuzly Lagoons have received a considerable volume of water from the sea in the last week, and their filling continues. About 5 million cubic meters of seawater flow to the Tuzly Lagoons per day.

How water enters the lagoons

The scientist published a video showing how water enters the lagoons. He also mentioned that since the beginning of the war, the national park Tuzly Lagoons has been prohibited from carrying out engineering works that would restore water exchange between the sea and the lakes.

Moreover, Rusiev revealed that there are currently many birds in the reserve, with small flocks of adult pink flamingos still present with young birds, although the main flock of "phoenixes" has already flown to Bulgaria.
