Is there a psychological factor that influences financial success? British and Norwegian psychologists have investigated the connection between character traits and the ability to accumulate wealth. It turned out that certain personality traits can lead to high incomes, regardless of gender or education, according to Wiley.
How the experiment was conducted
More than 3,000 people aged 31 to 50 took a special Big Five personality test and reported their wealth, savings, investments, and physical valuables.
They also provided information about their age, education, income, gender, place of residence, and other necessary data to correlate the results.
The Big Five Test
The study was based on the Big Five Test, which assesses five key character traits:
Extraversion - sociability, initiative, optimism, energy.
Benevolence - the ability to empathize and get along with others.
Conscientiousness - organization, responsibility, ability to plan.
Neuroticism - the level of emotional stability.
Openness to experience, curiosity - to new ideas, creativity.
What the study showed
Conscientiousness is the key to wealth
Researchers have found that conscientiousness is most closely related to financial success. Organized, responsible, and hard-working individuals accumulate additional wealth, regardless of gender or level of education.
Extraversion is important, but not decisive
Sociability can help you find a high-paying job, but it is not the main factor in wealth accumulation.
Neurotic people have less chance of success
People with high levels of neuroticism are much less likely to achieve financial stability. Instability requires them to effectively manage their capital and make decisions.
The researchers also emphasize that education or social status does not have as much influence on the ability to accumulate wealth as personal qualities.
According to scientists, financial success largely depends on character. Conscientiousness, efficiency, and the ability to plan are the traits that help not only to find a high-paying job but also to accumulate wealth. But neuroticism is the main obstacle to wealth.
