Google is transforming its Maps service into an intelligent assistant by integrating the conversational Gemini chatbot and an immersive 3D navigation feature, according to Google’s official blog.

Ask Maps features

The company introduces Ask Maps — a new conversational service powered by Gemini AI.

Users will be able to ask complex questions about locations in a dialogue format, such as finding venues with specific criteria (like available power outlets or vegan menus) or planning detailed travel routes.

The service analyzes data from over 300 million locations and community reviews to provide personalized recommendations.

Based on the received answers, users can immediately book a restaurant table or share a list of places with friends.

Navigation update

Google is also launching Immersive Navigation — the biggest visual update in the past 10 years.

Key changes include:

  • 3D visualization – the map will display realistic buildings, overpasses, and road details such as lanes, traffic lights, and crosswalks.

  • Natural voice guidance – directions will sound more human, for example: "Take this exit and turn at the next one."

  • Arrival assistance – as users approach their destination, Maps will highlight building entrances and suggest nearby parking options.

Additionally, the system will inform users about trade-offs when choosing routes (for example, a faster route with a toll) and provide real-time alerts about obstacles.

Gemini neural network development

Recently, Google unveiled a major update to its AI ecosystem, enabling Gemini to better understand context and process user requests more quickly.

The developers also released a new version, Gemini 3 Flash, notable for its high speed and optimization for mobile devices.

Later, the lineup was expanded with Gemini 3.1 Flash, which improved response accuracy and enhanced multimodal data processing capabilities.
