Biden urges Senate to approve Ukraine aid bill as soon as possible
US President Joe Biden has called on the Senate to quickly send an aid bill to Ukraine for his signature so that the United States can send weapons and equipment to meet Ukraine's urgent needs on the battlefield as soon as possible.
In a statement, Biden said that the House of Representatives today voted "to advance our national security interests and send a clear message about the power of American leadership on the world stage."
"At this critical inflection point, they came together to answer history’s call, passing urgently needed national security legislation that I have fought for months to secure," the US president said.
He noted that the bill was passed at a "moment of grave urgency" when Ukraine was under continuous bombardment by Russia.
"I urge the Senate to quickly send this package to my desk so that I can sign it into law and we can quickly send weapons and equipment to Ukraine to meet their urgent battlefield needs," the statement reads.
Today, on April 20, the US House of Representatives voted in favor of the Ukraine aid bill.
Here is a detailed look at the package.
On Tuesday, April 23, the bill is to be considered by the US Senate. Then it will go to the US President for signature.
