Biden's team advises Kim Jong-un to feed people of DPRK, not build up army
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un would be better off feeding the people of the DPRK rather than building up the army, stated John Kirby, the coordinator of the White House National Security and Defense Council, according to the White House press service.
"You have to take rhetoric like that (about the destruction of South Korea, the United States, and Japan with nuclear weapons - ed.) seriously from a man in charge of a regime that continues to pursue advanced military capabilities, including nuclear capabilities," he said.
Kirby noted that the United States is doing everything to try to counter the threat from the DPRK.
"You have to take this seriously. Kim Jong-un ought to focus more on feeding his people than on buying and purchasing advanced military capabilities," he emphasized.
DPRK's military policy
North Korea sometimes declares its status as a nuclear power and regularly conducts ballistic missile tests. These tests have caused concern in the United States, South Korea, and Japan.
Earlier it became known that North Korea announced the test of a hypersonic solid-fuel ballistic missile.
We also reported that the DPRK launched a ballistic missile toward the Sea of Japan, causing concern in Japan.
The White House has said that the nature of the security threat posed by North Korea could change radically in the next decade as a result of its cooperation with Russia.
