Biden pokes fun at Trump's age: 'One candidate is too old, other one is me'
US President Joe Biden joked about his future election opponent, Republican Donald Trump. The leader pointed out the age of his opponent, informs Reuters.
Biden made the corresponding statement at the annual dinner of the Gridiron club. This is an annual event held in Washington since the 1880s. Each American president during their tenure is expected to participate in the event.
Overall, Biden's speech lasted about 10 minutes. The dinner was attended by over 650 guests, including Irish President Leo Varadkar, Amazon founder and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew.
"One candidate (for president of the US, - ed.) is too old and mentally unfit to be president. The other one is me," said 81-year-old Biden about 77-year-old Trump.
However, not all of Biden's speech was humorous. The US President also stated that the press "is not the enemy of the people," refuting previous statements made by Trump. Additionally, Biden mentioned Ukraine.
"We will not bow down, they (Ukrainians) will not bow down and I will not bow down," Biden said.
The President of the United States also discussed the war in Ukraine with Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.
US elections
The presidential elections in the United States will take place on November 5th. The main candidates for the position of American president are the incumbent leader, Joe Biden (Democrat), and former president Donald Trump (Republican).
It is worth noting that Trump regularly calls for an end to the war in Ukraine and promises to do so if he wins the upcoming presidential elections. At the same time, he advocates for reducing military aid to Ukraine.
