US President Joe Biden has decided to pardon a number of his relatives. He signed the corresponding decree, NBC News reports.

According to the decree, Biden decided to pardon:

  • his brother James Biden;
  • his sister-in-law Sara Biden;
  • his sister Valerie Biden Owens;
  • his brother-in-law John T. Owens;
  • his brother Francis Biden.

According to the pardon document, Biden will pardon his relatives for "any nonviolent offenses against the United States which they may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014, through the date of this pardon."

It is worth noting that Biden made this decision in the final hours of his presidency, on the day of Donald Trump's inauguration.

Biden pardoned a number of officials

It was previously reported that Biden had preemptively pardoned former and current US officials.

In particular, this applied to former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and members and staff of the commission investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

According to the president, they could face criminal prosecution.
