National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett stated that US President Joe Biden is closely monitoring the situation in Syria and remains in constant communication with partners.
“President Biden and his team are closely monitoring the extraordinary events in Syria and staying in constant touch with regional partners,” Savett noted.
According to Savett, the US is also maintaining continuous communication with regional partners regarding the issue.
Situation in Syria
At the end of November 2024, the conflict in Syria reignited with renewed intensity. Large-scale clashes erupted between Islamist rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the Syrian National Army, and Bashar al-Assad’s forces.
Recent reports indicate that Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed al-Jalali expressed readiness to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the people. This statement followed reports of rebels entering Damascus.
It has also been confirmed that President Bashar al-Assad departed the Syrian capital on Sunday, fleeing in an aircraft to an unknown destination.
