Biden arrives in Germany for his last visit as US president
US President Joe Biden has arrived in Germany for a brief visit, marking his final trip to Berlin during his tenure as American president, citing Reuters.
Biden landed in Berlin late on Thursday, October 17. Today, he is set to hold bilateral talks with the German president and chancellor.
In Berlin, Biden will discuss Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with the leaders of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. The conflict in the Middle East is also expected to be a key topic of discussion.
"The situation on the battlefield in Ukraine, the trajectory of the war, how allies can best support Ukraine will be a subject of conversation," a senior US administration official said before the trip about the meeting with European leaders.
Initially, Biden had planned to convene a broader meeting of Ukraine's allies at the US Air Force base in Ramstein, Germany, last week, during a scheduled three-day visit. It would have been his first trip to the country in nearly 40 years.
However, the visit was postponed due to Hurricane Milton in the United States, prompting Biden to come to Germany for a swift visit instead.
Initially, the brief nature of Biden's visit to Germany was not confirmed, but later Berlin acknowledged the president's arrival. Nonetheless, there will be no in-person meeting in the Ramstein format during Biden’s visit.
