Best foods to boost concentration and mental performance
To restore the body after the New Year holidays and return to the work routine, it’s worth adding healthy foods to your diet. They can improve concentration and boost energy, according to Daily Express.
What to eat
Dr. Bing, a brain health expert, stated that there is no magic pill to prevent cognitive decline, and no single food can guarantee a sharp mind in old age. However, studies show that certain foods can significantly benefit the brain.
Leafy vegetables
The first foods he recommended were leafy greens such as kale, spinach, and broccoli, which are packed with nutrients and can slow cognitive decline. These include vitamin K, folic acid, beta-carotene, B12, and vitamin E.
Fatty fish
Fatty fish, such as salmon, sardines, and cod, are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are associated with lower levels of beta-amyloid—a protein that forms harmful clumps in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease.
Dr. Bing recommends eating two servings of fatty fish per week. If you don’t like fish, there are several plant-based alternatives, such as flaxseeds and walnuts.
Fruits
The third recommended food was fruits like strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries, which contain flavonoids. These are among the most powerful antioxidants and can help improve memory.
Moreover, berries also have anti-inflammatory effects, can reduce the risk of cancer, and help strengthen the immune system.
Caffeine
The fourth recommendation will be pleasant news for coffee or tea lovers, as caffeine is a great way to improve focus and help the brain retain new memories.
"However, be cautious not to overconsume caffeine and try to avoid it in the afternoon to avoid disrupting sleep," he said.
Nuts
The fifth and final recommendation was nuts, especially walnuts, as they are rich in a specific type of omega-3 associated with improved cognitive function and heart health.
