The head of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) faction in the Bavarian Landtag, Katrin Ebner-Steiner, believes that Ukrainian refugees should return to their homeland "already now," DW reports.

The leader of the Bavarian branch of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), Katrin Ebner-Steiner, stated that Ukrainian refugees must return to their home country. In a comment to the Sat.1 TV channel on January 16, she supported "remigration," arguing that this would prevent Germany from "becoming further Islamized."

Journalist Johann Osel from Süddeutsche Zeitung, who attended an AfD meeting in Regensburg on January 14-15, reported that Ebner-Steiner referred to Ukrainians during the event. According to her, Ukraine is a large country with "enough space" for refugees to return. She emphasized that the number of foreigners who could be expelled from Germany, including Ukrainians, amounts to two million people.

Ebner-Steiner called for "massive remigration" and proposed declaring a "refugee emergency" in Bavaria to restrict further placements of refugees. She also opposed the presence of "welfare recipients unwilling to integrate" in the region.

It is worth noting that just yesterday, information emerged that Germany and Ukraine had agreed to create a network of support centers for Ukrainian refugees under Unity Hub.

The first center is expected to open in Berlin in the near future.

Meanwhile, it is reported that in 2024, the number of asylum applications in European countries decreased by more than 130,000, roughly 12%.

However, Germany remains the leader in the number of initial asylum applications.
