Azerbaijan has stated that Armenia fired on its positions. Yerevan denies Baku's accusations, according to the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Defense.

Azerbaijan's state news agency Azertag, citing the Ministry of Defense, reported that on Sunday, March 16, at around 9:35 AM local time, Armenian forces fired on Azerbaijan's positions in the area of Dig in the Gorissky district. According to Baku, the fire was opened with small arms.

Meanwhile, the Armenian Ministry of Defense denies Azerbaijan's accusations.

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense statement claiming that on March 16 at around 9:45 AM, units of the Armenian armed forces opened fire towards Azerbaijani positions in the southeastern section of the border area is false, according to the Armenian Ministry of Defense.

Armenia emphasized that it proposed the creation of a joint mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations or related information, but Azerbaijan has not yet responded to this proposal.

Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

It is worth recalling that in September 2023, Azerbaijan carried out "counterterrorism operations" in Nagorno-Karabakh, effectively ending the armed conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia. However, a peace agreement between the two countries has still not been signed.

Russia was also involved in the conflict, with its so-called peacekeepers stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh.

This week, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that negotiations with Armenia on the peace agreement text had been completed. Now, Yerevan must amend its constitution.
