Russia will halt gas supplies to Austria tomorrow, November 16. However, the country is prepared for this scenario, stated Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, according to Kronen Zeitung.

The Austrian Chancellor stated that he was informed on Friday afternoon about Gazprom's intention to halt gas supplies on Saturday morning.

According to Nehammer, this is exactly what Austria has been preparing for since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

"We also show that we will not allow Putin to blackmail us. Putin will not succeed in throwing Austria and the EU off a course," the Chancellor added.

He noted that Austria has sufficient capacity to receive gas from other regions, and the country's storage is 93% full.

Halt of gas supply

It is worth noting that earlier, an arbitration court ordered Gazprom to pay the Austrian company OMV €230 million for irregular gas deliveries.

The company had anticipated that this court ruling could lead Russia to stop gas supplies.

Against this backdrop, gas prices in Europe have risen, with gas futures reaching the highest level in a year.
