US President Donald Trump called a journalist a "stupid person" after she asked why he blamed President Joe Biden's administration for allowing an Afghan national into the country who later carried out an armed attack on National Guard troops, according to the New York Post.

Following Trump's Thanksgiving Day call with US military bases, the journalist asked why he was so certain that the Afghan suspect in the White House attack had been allowed into the country under former President Joe Biden’s administration without proper vetting.

"Because they let them in. Are you stupid? Are you a stupid person? Because they came in on a plane along with thousands of other people that shouldn’t be here, and you’re just asking questions because you’re a stupid person,” Trump said.

Shooting near the White House

The incident involving US National Guard troops occurred on the evening of November 26 in Washington, not far from the White House.

Two Guard members were wounded in the shootout and were hospitalized in critical condition. The suspect was detained at the scene.

It was later revealed that the shooter was 29-year-old Afghan migrant Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who, according to officials, arrived in the US in 2021 under a program implemented by President Biden's administration following the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.

It also became known that National Guard service member Sarah Beckstrom, who was critically injured in the shooting near the White House, has died.

Trump’s clashes with journalists

Trump is widely known for his frequent clashes with reporters. Recently, New York Times journalist Katie Rogers came under fire from the president.

The paper published a report on signs of aging in the 79-year-old US President. In response, Trump called the NYT "the enemy of the people" and labeled one of the article's co-authors a "third-rate reporter."

The President accused journalists of distorting facts and deliberately portraying him negatively.

Earlier, Trump called a journalist from a US news agency a "piggy" after she asked about the case of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
