Apple is actively working on a blood pressure monitoring feature for Apple Watch, which could be ready as early as 2025, the website MacRumors, specializes in news, rumors, and information related to Apple products reports.

Blood pressure monitoring is a health feature that Apple has reportedly been working on for several years. According to rumors, the company initially aimed to launch it in 2024.

The feature won't provide exact systolic and diastolic blood pressure measurements. Instead, it will monitor whether a user's blood pressure is trending upward and send alerts if hypertension is detected. Upon receiving a notification, the Apple Watch user can share this information with a healthcare professional for further testing.

Hypertension, often referred to as the "silent killer," can go unnoticed and undiagnosed, leading to heart damage and even death. High blood pressure typically shows few symptoms until it progresses significantly. Early detection through the Apple Watch could save lives.

The Apple Watch already offers health features, such as detecting atrial fibrillation or irregular heartbeat and taking one-lead ECG readings. It also includes a blood oxygen monitoring function.

According to Gurman, Apple plans to incorporate this blood pressure monitoring feature into the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and possibly extend it to standard smartwatches slated for release in 2025.

However, it remains to be seen whether Apple will launch the feature next year. In 2022, the company reportedly faced accuracy issues during testing, but those challenges might have been resolved.

Apple is also continuing to develop noninvasive blood glucose monitoring, though this feature isn't yet ready for release.
