Apple officially released iPhone 16E: Specifications of new product

Apple has unveiled the long-awaited iPhone SE 4, which combines powerful features with an affordable price, reports the official press center Apple Newsroom.
Home button is a thing of the past
Apple has introduced the iPhone 16E with an updated design, finally abandoning the classic Touch ID interface. Instead, the 16E model received a Face ID notch, the latest A18 chip, and support for Apple Intelligence.
The spiritual successor to the iPhone SE
The iPhone 16E can be considered the successor to the iPhone SE, but its design is based on the iPhone 14 (2022). The front-facing camera for Face ID and selfies is built into a small notch at the top of the screen, not in the Dynamic Island, as in the flagship models.

Display and dimensions
The smartphone is equipped with a 6.1-inch OLED display and is now comparable in size to the standard iPhone 16. Apple no longer offers smaller smartphones - at least until the release of the alleged iPhone 17 Air.

New controls and transition to USB-C
The iPhone 16E has a customizable Action button, but does not support the new Camera Control feature available in the iPhone 16. The device also abandoned the Lightning port in favor of USB-C, which has become a mandatory requirement for sales in the EU.

Performance and support for Apple Intelligence
The iPhone 16E is powered by the same A18 chip as the iPhone 16. This makes it powerful enough to work with Apple Intelligence, a set of AI tools including smart notifications. Even the basic iPhone 15 does not support this feature.

Apple has previously stated that Apple Intelligence requires at least 8 GB of RAM, so presumably the iPhone 16E has at least that much. In addition, the base version now has 128 GB of storage - 64 GB models are a thing of the past.

Camera: only one lens
The iPhone 16E has a single 48-megapixel primary camera. This is the main difference from more expensive models that offer additional cameras. Nevertheless, the device supports wireless charging and is IP waterproof.
The first iPhone with an Apple modem
The iPhone 16E is the first Apple smartphone with its own modem. The company has been working for many years to abandon Qualcomm solutions, and now we see the result. The question remains how well it will work and whether Apple is ready to completely switch to its own modems in the iPhone 17 line.
Price and release date
The iPhone 16E will be available for pre-order tomorrow at a price starting at $599. This is noticeably more expensive than the iPhone SE 2022, which costs $429, but the new model offers more memory and a modern design. The official launch is scheduled for February 28.
