Apple changes rules: Why millions of iPhones won’t get iOS 27.1

Apple has released the second beta builds of iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2 for developers and public beta testers. The new testing phase began just a few days after the release of the final versions of iOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate, according to MacWorld.
Why was the 27.1 release skipped?
Apple decided to skip the 27.1 update for most devices. Reports indicate that the 27.1 branch was developed specifically for the iPhone Duo, which is scheduled to go on sale in October.
Other company devices will receive the 27.2 update directly.
Testing is proceeding on an accelerated schedule. The first developer builds appeared in mid-September, and a week later the company released the second batch of test builds.
Participants in the public beta program will receive the corresponding updates soon.
New features for iPhone and Mac
The updates primarily focus on system optimization, but developers have also added several notable features.
The Health app on iPhone has received a redesigned interface and new AI-powered analytics tools.
The Siri voice assistant with voice AI will expand its language support. Starting in October, the service will support French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.
The FaceTime app for iOS now features Dual Capture, which allows users to stream video from the front and main cameras simultaneously.
The Up Next section in Podcasts has received additional blocks featuring new episodes and unfinished shows.
The Apple TV service now supports multiple user profiles on mobile devices and the web version, as well as the Multiview mode for simultaneously watching four sports broadcasts on iPhone screens.
In macOS 27.2, Apple is preparing to launch a feature that automatically replaces compromised passwords.
Security measures when installing the beta
Installing beta builds carries the risk of unstable device performance, app errors and increased battery consumption.
Experts do not recommend installing beta versions on primary work smartphones and computers.
Before installing the update, users should make a full backup of their data using iCloud or Time Machine. The Mac should have at least 25–30 GB of free disk space.
How to install the beta OS version
To download the iOS beta version, go to the Apple Beta Software Program website and register your account.
After that, a Beta Updates option will appear in the smartphone settings under Software Update, where you need to select the appropriate download source.
On Mac computers, the process is configured through System Settings.
In the General tab, open Software Update, click the information icon next to beta updates and confirm participation in the beta testing program.
