In the Siversk direction, Russian forces committed a gross violation of international law by shooting a Ukrainian serviceman during surrender. The incident has been classified as a war crime, and an investigation is ongoing, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In the area of the village of Sviato-Pokrovske, Russian forces, taking advantage of weather conditions, carried out a covert infiltration into the Defense Forces’ combat positions.

A video has appeared on enemy information channels showing Russian soldiers at one of the Ukrainian positions. The footage captures a serviceman of the Edelveis 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade.

During the clearing of a private-sector area, a Russian serviceman found a Ukrainian defender in a partially destroyed house. When the soldier emerged with his hands raised, showing his readiness to surrender, the enemy treacherously opened fire.

The wounded Ukrainian serviceman attempted to hide but was finished off with a shot from an automatic weapon.

Under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the war crime that resulted in a person’s death (Part 2, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Investigative actions are being carried out to establish all circumstances of the crime and to identify the responsible Russian serviceman. The killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is considered a serious international crime.

Russian forces systematically violate international humanitarian law by using violence against Ukrainian prisoners of war. Such actions are documented by the Ukrainian side and international organizations for the further prosecution of those responsible.
