Another checkpoint blocked on Poland-Ukraine border
Polish strikers blocked another checkpoint for trucks on the border between Poland and Ukraine, namely, the checkpoint Shehyni, said Andrii Demchenko, the spokesman of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
According to available information provided by the Polish border guards, today, November 23, around 10:30 a.m. on the territory of Poland on the road in front of the Medyka checkpoint, which is adjacent to the Ukrainian Shehyni checkpoint, the traffic of cargo vehicles began to be blocked.
Therefore, it is possible to complicate the movement both to the exit from Poland and to the entrance.
Polish border guards reported that the blocking of traffic may last from November 23 to 26. About 1,400 trucks are currently waiting to enter Ukraine on this route.
The strikers in Poland do not plan to obstruct the movement of buses and passenger vehicles.
Currently, border guards of Ukraine are taking measures to monitor the situation and to clarify cooperation with Polish colleagues regarding the procedure for the further passage of cargo vehicles and the categories of cargo that will be passed across the border.
Border blockade by Polish carriers
Since November 6, the movement of freight transport at the checkpoints Krakivets-Korchova, Rava-Ruska-Grebenne, and Yahodyn-Dorogusk has been hampered on the Ukrainian-Polish border. As of the morning of November 23, 2,600 trucks are waiting to enter Ukraine on these routes.
The queues at the border were caused by strikes by Polish carriers. On November 16, they rejected the joint proposals of the European Commission, Ukraine, and Poland and refused to end the strike. Their main demand is to return to the permit system for our country.
The European Commission has warned that it may initiate criminal proceedings against Poland if the authorities do not resolve the issue of blocking checkpoints on the border with Ukraine by carriers.
