The war in Ukraine should be one of the topics in Germany's election campaign. Berlin is warned against setting red lines in support of Ukraine, according to Ukraine's ambassador to Germany, Oleksiy Makeiev for ZDF.

"Today, more than ever, action is needed. This is exactly what I expect from democratic parties in this election campaign," he said.

The diplomat warned Germany against drawing so-called "red lines" on the issue of supporting Ukraine.

"I believe it is wrong to draw red lines around oneself, rather than in front of the enemy and the aggressor," Makeiev emphasized.

German aid

Germany is one of Ukraine's key partners in the military sector. Berlin has been consistently supplying Ukraine with military packages. The latest update on assistance was on November 20.

In the new package, Germany allocated four Panzerhaubitzen 2000 self-propelled howitzers, mine-clearing tanks, armored vehicles, hundreds of drones, and other weapons to Ukraine.

Additionally, Germany announced the transfer of two IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine by the end of the year.

However, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz remains opposed to supplying Ukraine with long-range Taurus cruise missiles.
