Russia is reporting hours-long delays of domestic flights, allegedly caused by drone threats that led to temporary restrictions at the country’s major airports, according to Russian media outlet Shot.

"Over 20 flights have been delayed at Sheremetyevo, and some flights to St. Petersburg were canceled entirely. Due to the threat of drone attacks, Moscow’s airport temporarily suspended departures. Some passengers have been stuck there for over 10 hours," Russian media noted.

The situation at Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg appears even more chaotic: around 50 flights have been delayed and more than 20 canceled for the same reason.

The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency also stated that flight departures from Sheremetyevo were suspended "due to restrictions in several sectors of Moscow's airspace and increasing wind speeds." At the same time, Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport is temporarily not operating outbound flights, although it continues to receive inbound ones.

Drone attack on Russia

As a reminder, on the night of July 5, strike drones targeted several regions of Russia. In the city of Cheboksary (Chuvash Republic), explosions were also reported. Local residents filmed what appeared to be a strike and a fire, likely at one of the local industrial facilities.

Additionally, explosions were heard in Engels, Saratov region. Some Telegram channels suggested that a military airfield might have been targeted.

It was also reported that Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the Borisoglebsk airfield in Voronezh region. Russian Su-34, Su-35S, and Su-30SM aircraft are based there. The operation was carried out by units of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces, in coordination with other components of the Defense Forces.
