During the National Defense Forum in the US, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that American Abrams tanks, supplied by the US to the Ukrainian army, have reportedly not been particularly effective on the battlefield in Ukraine.

“When it comes to Abrams tanks, we have sent Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Those Abrams tanks units are actually undermined because it's not the most useful piece of equipment for them in this fight,” Sullivan stated.

He added that this assessment aligns entirely with the conclusions of the US military.

Commenting on the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets, the National Security Advisor mentioned that only a limited number of pilots are undergoing training. According to Sullivan, this is not due to US reluctance to train them but because “the Ukrainians do not have the pilots to be able to build full F-16’s capability in time.”

Regarding ATACMS missiles and the permission to strike Russian territory with them, Sullivan noted that they are “not a silver bullet, it's one additional capability.”

Abrams Tanks for Ukraine

The US provided Ukraine with American-made Abrams tanks. Depending on the model, these tanks are equipped with either a 105mm or 120mm gun, as well as three machine guns.

During the summer, Western media claimed that Ukraine had allegedly withdrawn Abrams tanks from the frontlines. The reason cited was interference from Russian drones, which complicated the tanks’ use. However, the Ukrainian Armed Forces denied this information.

It was also recently revealed that Australia will supply Ukraine with Abrams tanks, with 49 units of this equipment being delivered.
