500,000 mines installed on Ukraine-Belarus border: Ukrainian top commander reports
In the northern part of Ukraine, measures are being taken to resist the Russian army in case of its renewed advance, according to the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Serhii Naiev.
According to him, defensive fortifications have been erected along the northern border of Ukraine, and anti-tank mines have been installed. As of today, fortification equipment is still being reinforced and expanded along the border. The Ukrainian military has already placed more than 500,000 anti-tank mines, including anti-tank minefields, anti-tank mine groups, anti-personnel explosive devices, shells, and mine obstacles. As a result, the northern border is now 16 times better defended than it was in February 2022.
"We are creating conditions to make the state border of Ukraine in the Northern Operational Zone completely impassable for enemy forces," said Naiev.
Threat from Belarus
It is worth noting that from the early days of the full-scale invasion, Belarus has been assisting Russia in its war against Ukraine. In February 2022, Russian military equipment entered Ukraine from Belarusian territory.
Furthermore, Russia has declared its intention to place nuclear weapons in Belarus and has stationed Russian troops at Belarusian training grounds. Therefore, the Ukrainian military continues to reinforce border security.
