Ice cream is a favorite summer dessert of many people. However, some of its ingredients may pose a health risk. Here are 5 extremely dangerous additives to watch out for.

Titanium Dioxide (E171)

This coloring agent is used to give ice cream a white color. Studies have shown that titanium dioxide nanoparticles can accumulate in the body and cause DNA damage. It is banned for use in food products in the European Union.

Red No. 3 (Erythrosine)

A synthetic dye is added to give ice cream a bright color. In 1990, the FDA banned its use in cosmetics due to its carcinogenic properties, but it is still allowed in food products in some countries.

Polysorbate 80

This emulsifier helps maintain the smooth texture of ice cream. However, animal studies have shown that it can cause intestinal inflammation and disrupt the microbiome.

Carrageenan (E407)

This thickener is derived from red seaweed. Some studies link it to an increased risk of intestinal inflammation and ulcer formation.

Mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids (E471)

These emulsifiers are used to improve the texture of ice cream. Although considered safe, some studies suggest a possible link to a higher risk of developing certain types of cancer.
