Breakfast doesn't have to be classic. There are less common but nutritious meals that help support concentration and energy levels. Here are three non-traditional morning menu options full of health benefits, according to Verywell Health.

Baked sweet potato

The International Journal of Biological Macromolecules notes that baked sweet potato with the skin is a filling and energizing breakfast. Its fiber and carbohydrates fuel the body, while also providing vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Bake the sweet potato and add vegetables or protein of your choice. Cooling it before eating also increases its resistant starch content, which may help prevent sharp drops in blood sugar.

Quinoa salad

The journal Food Chemistry reports that quinoa is a gluten-free grain that provides high-quality protein and amino acids to energize you in the morning.

Add chia seeds for extra fiber to aid digestion and keep you full until lunch. Avocado is another great addition, offering healthy fats that help stabilize blood sugar levels.

Savory oatmeal

Oatmeal doesn't always have to be sweet. Making it savory is a simple way to add variety and more nutrients to your morning.

Cook oatmeal in low-sodium broth instead of water, then top with vegetables such as spinach, mushrooms, or peppers.

Add a boiled egg for protein and a sprinkle of cheese or nutritional yeast for flavor. You can also finish the dish with avocado or a drizzle of olive oil for healthy fats.

Miso soup

Miso soup is a staple breakfast dish in Japan.

Since miso is a fermented soybean product, it contains gut-friendly microbes.

According to the journal Food Science Nutrition, you can add seaweed for trace elements such as manganese, folic acid, and iodine. Cubes of tofu can also be added to boost protein content.
