3 hair care mistakes causing dandruff: Never do it!

Dandruff is not only an aesthetic problem but also a sign that something is wrong with the hair or scalp. Most often, the cause of its appearance is mistakes in daily care. American dermatologist Aamna Adel explained what may be wrong with your hair care.
What mistakes lead to dandruff
Heatless curlers
According to the expert, the trend for heatless curlers, which involves sleeping with wrapped hair, can be harmful. Dr. Adel equates it to the damage caused by tight ponytails, suggesting it may lead to hair loss due to tension.
We all know that slicked buns and tight ponytails literally weaken your hair. Tightly pulling the hair for just a few hours will cause traction alopecia, the expert added.
Air drying
Many people get out of the shower and let their hair dry naturally. You might think this is a safe approach, but leaving your mane wet, especially before bed, can actually lead to hair damage.
Going to sleep with wet hair or air drying your hair is bad. Your hair is most fragile when it’s wet. The risk of it getting damaged is very high, the dermatologist explained.
In addition, a moist environment can lead to fungal growth and dandruff.
Sun damage
Sun exposure is not limited to the skin, as hair also needs protection from harsh UV rays. Prolonged exposure can damage the keratin in the hair.
Ultraviolet radiation breaks down the melanin and keratin bonds in the hair, which makes the hair dry, so it breaks more easily.
Therefore, it is worth using hair care products that also protect against ultraviolet radiation.
Symptoms of dandruff in hair
Signs of dandruff in hair are usually quite noticeable. Here are the main ones:
- white or yellowish flakes on the scalp are the most characteristic symptom. They may be visible on the hair, shoulders, or collar of clothing
- Itching of the scalp often accompanies dandruff and can be quite persistent
- Dry or oily scalp. Dandruff can occur with both dry and oily scalp types
- Redness or irritation of the scalp, especially if dandruff is caused by seborrheic dermatitis or an allergy
- Hair loss may sometimes be associated with dandruff, especially if there is inflammation of the scalp
