Traditional cow’s milk is increasingly being outshone by plant-based alternatives, which can bring out entirely new flavors in your coffee.

RBC-Ukraine highlights three specific types of milk that create the perfect texture for your drink and elevate your morning ritual to a truly sophisticated experience.

Which milk works best for coffee

Choosing a milk alternative is always a balance between taste and consistency. Today, supermarket shelves offer dozens of options, but not all of them are suitable for coffee.

Oat milk

According to many baristas, oat milk comes closest to cow’s milk. Its main advantage is its natural sweetness, which allows many people to skip adding sugar altogether. It’s also high in fiber, aiding digestion and providing a lasting feeling of fullness.

Almond milk

Almond milk has a light, nutty flavor that adds refined notes to coffee. It’s rich in vitamins D and E, as well as healthy fats. However, there’s a catch: almond milk can be tricky for making cappuccinos, as it doesn’t always produce a stable foam.

Soy milk

If you love a rich, creamy foam, soy milk is your go-to. It froths better than any other plant-based alternative and is a great source of protein and calcium.

The only downside is its distinct taste, which not everyone enjoys. That’s why producers often add vanilla or chocolate, though this does increase the drink’s calorie content.

Benefits of plant-based milk

Switching to plant-based milk offers clear advantages: no cholesterol or lactose and an added boost of vitamins to your diet.

However, experts advise reading labels carefully. To improve taste, many manufacturers add sugar, stabilizers, or flavorings.

If you’re watching your figure, opt for versions labeled “Unsweetened.”

Finding your perfect flavor often requires some experimentation. The market is constantly evolving, offering options made from hazelnut, coconut, or even rice - so every morning can start with a new discovery.
