‘Putin is mocking any kind of peace efforts,’ says EU High Representative

Russian President Vladimir Putin ignores all peace initiatives, and the only way to influence him remains international pressure, says EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
EU defense ministers are meeting today in Copenhagen to discuss support for Ukraine and ways to increase pressure on Russia over the continuation of the war, and ignoring the peace initiatives.
Ahead of the summit, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, stated that Russian President “Putin is mocking any kind of peace efforts.”
“The only thing he (Putin - ed.) understands is pressure,” Kallas emphasized.
Defense ministers’ meeting in Copenhagen
Today, August 28, EU ministers arrived in Copenhagen with one goal: to exert pressure on Russia through a dual approach of sanctions and support for Ukraine.
Earlier today, at the informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Copenhagen, Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken said that Belgium does not rule out the possibility of sending Belgian troops to Ukraine.
In addition, yesterday's reports indicated that the European Union will discuss security guarantees for Ukraine after the war ends.
According to the media, one of the ideas is the deployment of peacekeeping forces from a neutral third country to patrol a demilitarized zone. This issue will be on the agenda during today’s meeting.
