The US Department of Defense is seeking to extend President Joe Biden's authority to allocate any remaining funds for military support to Ukraine through Congress after the fiscal year ends in late September, according to a statement from Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary, Sabrina Singh.

She mentioned that they intended to use the amount allocated under the presidential authorities.us

According to Singh, there is currently $5.8 billion in unused funds under presidential authority for Ukraine.

However, she noted that the Pentagon is unable to provide military aid at this time because it lacks the resources to replenish its stockpiles. Singh explained that while Congress was deliberating on a significant aid package for Ukraine, the Pentagon was unable to restock its supplies.

AP previously reported that funding for Ukraine, totaling nearly $6 billion, will expire at the end of the month. To prevent this, Congress must take urgent action to extend Biden's authority. Sources told the agency that the Department of Defense is also considering other options.
